Winter 2025-2026 in Tuborg Havn Denmark

Early in autumn 2025 we decided that we would spend the winter in Tuborg Havn in Denmark. It has been almost like a tradition that every second year we come here. This time we sailed from Mariehamn Åland straight to Tuborg Havn 425 Nm and it took us two days and nine hours. We did this because the weather was good and there was a party to attend.  The first thing we always do when we get to Tuborg Havn we go for a Tuborg beer at the restaurant in the harbor.

We arrived just in time for the party for all the winter liveaboards. There were quite few of us at that party, and it was a good opportunity to get to know who would be staying here during the winter months. We even received a list showing where everybody had their boats moored, and a WhatsApp group so we could get in contact if we needed help with something.

In December the yacht club organized a rescue training for us. We even had an 80kg dummy that we had to try to rescue from the water, to show us how hard it is in real life to rescue someone. That training was excellent and taught us a lot. How hard it is to get someone out of cold water, how little time one has, and what the procedure is during a rescue. It was a truly eye-opening experience.

In December we had the opportunity to attend a traditional Danish Christmas party. Even though Finland and Denmark are both Nordic countries, our traditions are not the same, they differ quite a lot. So, with that in mind, it was an honor to experience a Danish Christmas party and see how it differs from ours.

For New Year we had visitors from Finland for a few days. It is always a good excuse for a party when that happens.

This year we felt we hadn’t had a proper break from Sweet Hope in years, so it was time for a small one. We went to Cyprus for a week to visit friends there and relax from all things yachting. We ended up walking over 60km during that week, there was so much to see. We even went wild asparagus picking, which was a fun experience. Wild asparagus is a bush you search for, harvesting its new sprouts.

Maybe one day we will go there with Sweet Hope. The lovely crystal-clear water is so tempting, and Cyprus is building a new marina there, so perhaps in a few years’ time we will arrive with Sweet Hope.

This winter in Tuborg Havn was very cold and long. For the first time during our stay, the harbor basin iced over, and we had easterly winds for a long time, not at all what we expected. But what can you do? You simply have to adapt to whatever comes your way. Even the locals were surprised by how cold and long the winter was; apparently, the last winter like this was around 30 years ago.

Our time here at Tuborg Havn is drawing to an end. It has been another wonderful winter, lots of parties, new like-minded friends, travelling, good food, and many new memories. We still have one visitor coming before we leave Denmark once again, and a few more parties to look forward to.

But spring is here. The sun is getting warmer every day, and the Baltic Sea is looking its best and calling us to cast off the lines. Just a few more weeks, and then it will be time to say goodbye for now. See you soon, Tuborg Havn and Denmark.
